I just finished my last final ever! Now my life begins... Time to enjoy March Madness baby! I can't think of any song more fitting for this occasion....
This is William before they put him down for the night. He's so sad! He's sad because he knows that mommy and daddy will be leaving him for the night. They are trying to teach him to fall asleep on his own. And apparently he cries real tears now which makes it even more sad! But then they laugh because its so cute. Then they feel sad again.
Trying to study on a Friday night is difficult. So instead I'm looking up videos on Maryland basketball. We just beat Duke on Wed AGAIN for the season sweep. We've swept the Carolina schools this season too. We've beaten Duke 3 of the last 4 times at Cameron (including the ACC tournament in 2003). Maryland has no fear of Duke. Now Dookies fear the turtle.
And not only does Maryland own Duke, they have more fun too. Check out the soul train line.
So I don't feel like writing about the 3M Conference right now, maybe some other time.
Instead I wanna talk about worship songs. I really like worship songs that teach biblical truth and remind you of the gospel. Its my personal opinion, but I'm tired of songs that talk about me, my, I, or anything about what I'm going to do. I think its much more important to be reminded of who God is and what He has done. I need to be reminded of the gospel every day. And yes, I have a preference for what a very "nice" friend called "bi ren" music. But I think its only partly a style issue, which I hope I'm not so biased toward that I'm not seeing things clearly. Sovereign Grace music is one of the few that I know of that always focuses on the gospel. And actually some of their songs I don't know if I'd like that much if it wasn't for the words. If I'm being biased or unbiblical, someone please point it out to me. But I really do think that most worship songs don't do a good job of truly leading people in worship of God. I'm not trying to say that any particular worship songs are crap. I believe that worship is a state of your heart and not necessarily the words that are coming out of your mouth. But I also believe that words help you formulate thoughts and ideas about God and that worship songs should use that fact to remind us of the most important thing in this life, the gospel.
The Gospel Song Holy God, in love, became Perfect Man to bear my blame On the cross He took my sin By His death I live again
Alas, And Did My Savior Bleed Alas, and did my Savior bleed And did my Sovereign die? Would He devote that sacred head For such a worm as I? Was it for sins that I had done He groaned upon the tree? Amazing pity, grace unknown And love beyond degree
My God, why would you shed Your blood? So pure and undefiled To make a sinful one like me Your chosen, precious child?
Well might the sun in darkness hide And shut His glories in When Christ, the mighty Maker, died For man, the creature's, sin Thus might I hide my blushing face While His dear cross appears Dissolve my heart in thankfulness And melt my eyes to tears
